What you Need to know
Aerobic (Cardiovascular) Exercise is one of the most important types of exercise for people with Parkinson’s disease. It helps keep your heart, lungs, and brain healthy while improving endurance, energy, and mood. Emerging research also shows that aerobic exercise may help slow the progression of Parkinson’s symptoms by supporting brain function.
Strength Training (also called resistance training) is a powerful tool for people living with Parkinson’s disease. It helps counteract muscle weakness, improve mobility, and enhance overall functional independence. As Parkinson’s progresses, muscles can become weaker and movement slower-strength training fights back by keeping your muscles, bones, and brain stronger for longer.
Balance and Stability training is critical part of any exercise program for people with Parkinson’s. As the disease progresses, it often affects your posture, coordination, and ability to recover from stumbles, increasing the risk of falls.
With targeted balance training, you can improve your safety, confidence, and mobility in everyday life.
Flexibility and stretching exercises are foundational for managing Parkinson’s disease. They help counteract muscle stiffness (rigidity), improve posture, reduce pain, and make daily movements like walking, dressing, or turning much easier.
These exercises are often overlooked, but they’re essential for maintaining comfort, mobility, and safety as Parkinson’s progresses.
Functional Exercises are designed to mimic and improve the movements you use in everyday life – like getting out of a chair, turning around, reaching, or walking through doorways. For people with Parkinson’s, theses exercises are essential because they help you stay independent, safe, and confident in daily activities.
Rhythmic and multitasking training is one of the most effective tools for improving gait, coordination, cognitive function, and freezing of gait in people with Parkinson’s. This type of training uses rhythm, music, cues, and cognitive challenges to enhance movement and brain-body coordination.

The doctor will then work with our personal training staff to develop a customized fitness program that fits you perfectly.

This is the most basic concept, but the most difficult to experience. Exercising doesn’t have to be a chore. In fact, it can be fun if your trainer designs workouts that you enjoy. We listen to our clients to determine which exercises make their workouts more challenging and empowering so working out is enjoyable again.
